Architect and Group Leader

Mat joined Heatherwick Studio in 2006. He has successfully led a number of the studio’s big scale projects.

He is currently heading the construction of Zeitz MOCAA, a reinvention of the historic grain silo at V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. The building will be transformed into a major art institution for the region to house a significant collection of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.

Mat is also responsible for Pier55, a 2.4 acre park and performance space situated in  the Hudson River in New York City and the re-development of a major piece of land in the heart of Abu Dhabi into a 125,000sqm local park. 

Mat was project architect for the 650,000sqm shopping mall and podium level transformation of Pacific Place, Hong Kong.

Prior to Heatherwick Studio, Mat worked as Project Architect at BCA London on a number of award-winning private and residential schemes.
