Shireen Hamdan

Populous

Principal

Shireen Hamdan is one of the youngest Principals at Populous, an international architecture practice specialising in sports and stadium architecture. Born in Lebanon, Shireen completed her architectural studies at the Architecture Association in London in 2007. She joined Populous in the same year, beginning her career in sports and entertainment architecture. Among her first projects were the redevelopment of Silverstone, the home of British Grand Prix, and the new retractable roof at Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

Shireen has a boundless passion for designing public and community venues. Most recently, she took a leading design role in two major sports and masterplan projects in Qatar and the Emirates. She was previously involved in the renovation of Sheikh Zayed Stadium, which was completed in 2009 for the Asian games.

In 2016, she was named as a “Rising Star” and an “Extraordinarily talented architect” by the Royal Institute of British Architect’s Journal. Alongside her fluency in Arabic, Shireen’s experience and skilled design approach make her ideally placed to bridge the technical requirements of developing sports, entertainment and community venues alongside the cultural nuances that need to be considered for the Middle East region.
