Science & Industry Leader

Mark Richardson joined Arup in 2006 and currently oversees Arup’s Science & Industry Architecture business for the UK and Middle East.

With over 20 years’ experience on award winning and highly sustainable projects across the globe, Mark’s expertise is in working with the major clients to design and deliver ambitious process-led projects in the Science & Innovation, Manufacturing and Energy and Waste sectors.

Three investigations underpin Marks’s approach to this. Firstly, how can a new approach to off-site & system designed buildings create faster and more responsive facilities? Secondly, how can bringing research and manufacturing back into urban settings create better facilities and more cultural and economically successful cities? And lastly, how can creating beautiful and highly sustainable facilities help attract and retain talent.

Mark’s recent projects include Mingzhu Rice Winery in South China, a unique and picturesque wine production and visitor facilities that will pioneer rice wine tourism in China, an innovation centre and headquarters for the world’s pre-eminent drone manufacturer DJI, and the world’s first naturally ventilated TV Studios for Sky in London, an RIBA award winner and beacon for exemplar sustainable broadcasting.
