A chartered architect with 38 years of design and construction experience, including bridges and urban environments. A founder-director of London based Studio Bednarski Ltd. A highly critical and provocative member of juries, panels and scientific committees. Winner of a number of awards and commendations. An outright winner in 23 UK and international architectural and urban design competitions, among them 13 bridges. In 2016 completed in Copenhagen the competition winning sliding Inderhvanen bridge. Currently working on a turning bridge in historic Gdansk, won in an invited competition. In 1993 winner of the first ever bridge design contest open to architects – the Thames Path bridge at Lechlade, UK. Currently member of Transport for London (TfL) design review panel for the Rotherhithe Crossing in London.

Key past and current associations and affiliations: member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), a Fellow and Advisory Council Member of the Royal Society of Arts; a Fellow and a Member of Fellows Committee of the 21st Century Trust (now merged with Salzburg Global Seminar); a Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects Panel of Competition Assessors, advisor to UNESCO, architectural and urban advisor to the mayor of Warsaw, a member of the London Borough of Islington Conservation and Design Panel, and of London Borough of Brent Design Review Panel. Member of the British Group of IABSE (International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering) and co-author of IABSE Guidelines for Design Competitions for Bridges. A Rome Scholar with the British School at Rome, a Diploma Unit Master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, an external examiner at the University of Cardiff Architecture School, and a visiting Professor of Architecture at Instituto Superior Politécnico José Antonio Echeverría, in Havana, Cuba. Lectures internationally. In September 2017 delivered a Master Class at A.Neto university in Luanda: DESIGN CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH (AND WEALTH) AND HOW TO PREVENT IT and in October 2017 at ECampus University at Novedrate a class on history of living/inhabited bridges.
